About — Who Is Alex, and Why Does This Site Exist?

About HairLossJourney.com

My name is Alex. I’m a business professional based in Asia, currently in my early 30s. I’ve been dealing with androgenetic alopecia — male pattern hair loss — since I first noticed my temples receding in college.

This site exists because the information I needed when I started didn’t exist in one place. Or if it did, it was buried behind marketing copy, hidden in forum threads, or written by people who’d never actually taken the medications or sat across from a hair transplant surgeon.

My Hair Loss Timeline

Teens: Wide forehead — always. I told myself it was just my face.

College: The first mirror moment. The temples weren’t just wide — they were moving. I was 21.

Age 24: First clinic visit. Diagnosed with Norwood Type III, early-to-moderate AGA. Started finasteride 1mg + minoxidil. Annual cost: roughly $1,200–$1,500.

Age 24–28 (four years): Finasteride + minoxidil. Result: stabilization.

Age 28–29: Switched to dutasteride for one year. Side effects made me reconsider. Discontinued and returned to finasteride-based therapy.

Age 29–present: Topical finasteride + topical minoxidil. Currently researching hair transplant options in Bangkok and Tokyo.

Now (early 30s): Actively planning a hair transplant — probably FUE, probably Bangkok, probably November 2026. I’ll document the whole thing here.
